PROGRAM CURRICULUM

The curriculum that is covered during group meetings consists of the following two modules, the Portals Module
and the Vocational Module.

The Portals Module teaches skills and techniques to explore and overcome the emotional barriers to working, such
as increasing motivation to change/work, coping with the stresses of the job application process, and handling interpersonal conflicts with colleagues and supervisors.  Many of these skills are similar to those used in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a therapy that has been highly effective with individuals who have BPD.

The Vocational Module focuses on recognizing one's readiness to work, developing vocational skills, writing resumes and cover letters, practicing interviews, networking, conducting job searches, and applying to jobs.  This Module
uses elements of the “choose-get-keep” approach to employment that highlights the importance of using the
individual's values/preferences to identify and find meaningful work.

TCP also offers: vocational assessments; computer tutorials; group volunteer projects; internships at the TCP
office; and presentations by invited speakers, especially speakers who have BPD and have successfully returned
to the workplace.
